  • We opened our doors in 1991 to serve the health care needs of Baltimore’s uninsured, a popu­la­tion that too often doesn’t get care except for emergencies. Our mission has never changed.
  • We serve patients living in three zip codes (21211 21218, and 21213) in north Baltimore. Our patients’ household incomes fall under 200% of the federal poverty guidelines, and nearly all are working or live in a household with an employed individual.
  • We are volunteer-driven. More than 350 volunteer phy­si­cians, nurses, and others provide our uninsured patients with a full continuum of caring, quality health care, from primary and specialty care to mental health and wellness services. Volun­teers receive a very rewarding expe­rience without time and billing pressures.
  • Medstar Union Memorial Hospital provides diag­nos­tic, specialty, and surgical services for our patients at no cost.
  • In 2009, we opened the Joy Wellness Center whose programs and therapies are designed spe­ci­fi­cally to create trans­for­ma­tive, healthy, life-affirming changes in the lives of our patients.
